Riley
The track currently playing is called "Is this Love" from the album "A Better Way" written by Howard and sung by Dale
Riley is the songwriting arm of Riley - Tuxedo Junction. Howard is the main song writer but his sister Wendy has helped and now his son Dale is working with Howard.
Howard first started his musical career in his dad's dance band along with his sister Wendy who sang and played saxaphone while Howard played guitar and trumpet. This then carried on in various bands in the 60's when Soul Music was the in thing, so playing trumpet and guitar was definitely an asset. He also backed many American Visiting artistes with a band called the State Express from Wellingborough. He also backed Edwin Starr when he was over and also Clive McPhatter from the original Drifters, who always asked for Howard and even wanted him to play in America with him.
Howard then joined a band called "Headline News" which featured Gill Lavis drummer who now plays with Jules Holland and
previously the Squeeze. We often have a laugh because Gill used to like singing and his favourite rendition was "Green Green
Grass of home". This is where Brenda met Howard whilst we were entertaining the troups in Germany. The band were fantastic and sang a lot of harmonies similar to the association, 5th Dimention. they used to get
upset as we werent very good but went down a bomb.
You will see why from the picture on the left!!.
He also played for a short time with
Stevie Marriott, who was obsessed with forming a band called the Small Faces with all small people!! Wendy eventually joined
him and together with Brenda they travelled all over the world with their unique harmony trio especially popular with the
cruise ships.
On every cruise all the musicians would join in for a big band night by the pool. The Trio would sing all the big band
numbers it used to go down a bomb. With free drinks there wasnt many muso's left standing at the end of the night.
Songwriting service
Howard now likes to concentrate on his songwriting and was very successful last year now he has the time to devote to it. He is kept busing working with Dale and producing musical arrangements for the band. He is able to write music and scores for orchestra's and bands, and is looking for commissions for T V and Film music. Howard also works with young talent needing help with their career to produce the right song and arrangement that could give them a break in this very hard business that is show-business.
